Everyone working in the UK, regardless of their nationality, pays National Insurance Contributions into the British State Pension Scheme. You will receive a pension of 1/35th of the basic state pension for each year of contribution when you reach State Pension Age subject to having paid at least ten years contributions.

How much is the British State Pension?

The full basic pension for peoople who reached State Pension Age before 5th April 2016 is £134.25 (about A$270) per week. For those qualifying after this date it could be even higher.

Is British State Pension means-tested?

No. Some British State Pension is paid to everyone who has made at least ten years contributions and has reached State Pension Age.

You can receive both Australian Age Pension and the British State Pension.

You can receive both pensions. But the British State Pension will be counted will be counted as income and may reduce your Australian Age Pension.You will almost always be better off with both pensions.

Worked in the UK less than ten years?
